Sr. Business Development Manager

The Senior Business Development Manager plays a critical role in supporting the growth and development of our agency. This position is focused on developing new client opportunities, managing current client agreements, and elevating our agency’s public profile, network, and brand.


About the Job

  • Sales & Client Acquisition: Identify and pursue new business opportunities through various channels, including networking, industry events, and thorough market research; Proactively manage and cultivate a robust pipeline of inbound inquiries while simultaneously developing and executing a strategic outbound sales plan to generate new leads; Develop and maintain strong relationships with potential clients, ensuring a consistent flow of opportunities for the agency; Lead pitch meetings and presentations to secure new clients and projects, often independently, to alleviate the workload of senior leadership.
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop and nurture strong relationships with existing clients to encourage retention and growth; Negotiate and manage client contracts, ensuring all agreements are mutually beneficial and aligned with the agency’s goals; Serve as a key contact for new business inquiries, fostering trust and credibility with potential clients.
  • Marketing Understanding & Strategy: Maintain a deep understanding of market trends, competitor activities, and industry best practices; Collaborate with internal PR, digital, and creative teams to develop comprehensive marketing strategies that align with client goals and drive business growth; Analyze campaign performance and provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Proposal and Strategy Development: Partner with PR, digital and creative teams to develop strategies, objectives, deliverables, and tactics for proposals; Oversee the entire new business process as required, from initial contact to contract signing; Ensure all proposals are tailored to client needs and effectively showcase the agency’s capabilities.
  • Case Studies and Portfolio Development: Direct the creation of case studies based on account successes for website posts and marketing materials; Regularly update the agency’s portfolio with recent work and successes to attract new business.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete time tracking and expense reports promptly; Safeguard confidentiality regarding client contact information and fees.
  • Team Management: Directly manage the workflow and performance of the Business Development Coordinator and Business Development Intern, ensuring they meet their objectives; Provide clear direction, ongoing feedback, and support to foster their professional growth and development.

About You

  • Industry Understanding: Preferred background in agency environments with a focus on sales experience; Strong foundation in marketing, public relations, and / or social media is preferred.
  • Communication and Design: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills; Proficiency in graphic design within Canva and Google Suite; understanding of Adobe software is preferred; Ability to create visually appealing presentations and maintain consistent formatting.
  • People Management: Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and leading team members, including overseeing their performance and development; Proven ability to foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment while providing clear guidance, direction, and support to junior staff; Strong leadership skills with a track record of achieving team goals.
  • Organizational and Technical Skills: Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and consistently meet deadlines while maintaining focus on key objectives; Proficiency in Google Suite and other relevant software (Microsoft Office Canva, Adobe, etc.); Effective collaboration in both independent and team settings; Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional Attributes: Commitment to setting and achieving personal objectives and goals; Understanding of industry, terminology, and competitive dynamics; Ability to handle and safeguard confidential and proprietary information. 
  • Education and Experience: Preferred minimum of four (4) years of agency experience; Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Development, Business Administration, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.

What It Takes

  • Physical Demands: Sitting 85% of the time, standing 15% of the time.
  • Working Hours: Typically, work hours are from 9:00 AM CST to 6:00 PM CST, Mondays through Fridays. Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting 20-50 lbs. as necessary.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regular use of hands and fingers for computer use.
  • Sensory Function: Everyday use of vision and auditory senses, including exposure to blue light from computers.
  • Environment: Work primarily indoors in an environmentally controlled setting. However, occasional travel and the ability to work in-office and on-site for client related meetings and events may be necessary.
  • Communication: Daily communication with peers, media, and clients is essential to the role.
  • Cognitive Demands: Ability to maintain cognitive thinking and logical reasoning throughout tasks and responsibilities.
